In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation “GDPR” the American Academy of Sleep Medicine “AASM” has implemented the following privacy policies to protect your personal data and inform you of your rights. This privacy policy is incorporated into and is a part of the Terms and Conditions of Use Agreement of our Site.
AASM includes the following legal entities which may also be processors of your personal data but are collectively included in this Privacy Policy:

When you see “AASM” throughout this Privacy Policy we are referring to all collective organizations stated above.
Accreditation
To maintain efficient service while respecting the privacy of visitors to the AASM’s website, including but not limited to Site Visitors, Facilities, Practices, and equipment suppliers participating in AASM’s online accreditation application process.
Accreditation Information Collection and Use
The AASM will collect personally identifiable information “PII” that you provide to us, including, but not limited to, your name, employer’s name, staff names, facility name, address(es), telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address, and credit card information. AASM may use and store such information in order to notify you of official AASM business; provide a product or service you requested; secure your membership status; analyze, evaluate, and improve member and prospective member needs and interests; track accreditation related activities; alert you of AASM news, activities, programs, services, and benefits; and for other legitimate and lawful business purposes. PII may be given to a third party to complete a specific business transaction on behalf of the AASM. Contact information from inquiries received by the AASM may be shared with AASM members to provide a service, satisfy a question, or develop a prospective business relationship.
We may disclose PII to the proper authorities if we become subject to a subpoena or court order or if we are otherwise legally required to disclose such information. We also may use and disclose information about you to establish or exercise our legal rights, to enforce the Terms and Conditions of Use, to assert and defend against legal claims, or if we believe such disclosure is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take other action regarding actual or suspected illegal or fraudulent activities or potential threats to the physical safety or well-being of any person. If all or part of AASM is merged into or otherwise transferred to another entity, we may transfer the personally identifiable information you provided to us to such entity as part of that transaction.
Professional Development Information Collection and Use
As part of the AASM’s initiative to provide educational events, products and resources for the professional development of its members, please note the following information collection and use for Registration, Order Forms and Award Application Programs.
To enroll or register in a program, attend AASM events, meetings, or conferences, or request products or services, an individual or organization may be required to fill out a registration or order form and provide PII, which will be used to process your registration or order. In certain circumstances, a program accessed through the Site may be jointly sponsored or co-sponsored with other organizations, and registration may or may not be handled by AASM. In such event, this privacy policy will not apply – instead, such third party’s privacy policy will be controlling. Please note that AASM is not responsible for the privacy policies of these other organizations (or their use of your PII or other information) and hereby disclaims any liability or responsibility in connection therewith. In addition, your name and information may appear on registration or attendee lists distributed at AASM events, meetings, and conferences to other attendees and third parties.
Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM) Information Collection and Use
As part of the AASM’s initiative to provide clinical resources for its members, please note the following information collection and use for the JCSM, Reviewers and the Foundation Award Review.
When you submit a manuscript to the JCSM or agree to review a manuscript for the journal the AASM will collect your name, contact information, including your professional position and affiliation, potential financial conflict of interest disclosures, and various metadata about your manuscript, including the manuscript files themselves. This information is stored in the Editorial Manager database.
We consider your submission and the information contained in your manuscript and cover letter to be confidential information and will treat it as such. We do send submissions, including all author names, to external peer reviewers but require that they keep the information confidential. You may request withdrawal of your manuscript at any time.
We use the data to perform internal editorial review and external peer review of your manuscript. If we publish your manuscript in the JCSM, your name, institutional affiliation, and much of the material you submit with the manuscript will be made public.
We may contact you and your individual coauthors with questions about your submitted manuscript. If you are an author, we will contact you from time to time while your manuscript is under review. If you are a reviewer, we may contact you from time to time to ask you to perform a review.
Membership
To maintain efficient service, we will collect the PII that you provide to us, including, but not limited to, your name, degree, date of birth, gender, race and ethnicity, education, national provider identification number “NPI”, email, certification, special accommodations professional status and practice type.
This information will be collected via online and paper applications, or through telecommunications. The AASM may use and store such information to notify you of official AASM business; provide a product or service you requested; secure your membership status; analyze, evaluate, and improve member and prospective member needs and interests; track accreditation related activities; alert you of AASM news, activities, programs, services, and benefits; and for other legitimate and lawful business purposes. PII may be given to a third party to complete a specific business transaction on behalf of the AASM. Interscorer Reliability
To maintain efficient service while respecting the privacy of visitors to the Inter-scorer Reliability website, AASM has created and incorporated this privacy policy into its Terms and Conditions of Use Agreement of our website.
We will collect the PII that you provide to us, including, but not limited to, your name, address(es), telephone, and e-mail address. The AASM may use and store such information to provide a product or service you requested; analyze, evaluate, and improve ser and prospective ser experiences; alert you of AASM news, activities, programs, services, and benefits; and for other legitimate and lawful business purposes. PII may be given to a third party to complete a specific business transaction on behalf of the AASM. Contact information from inquiries received by the AASM may be shared to provide a service, satisfy a question, or develop a prospective business relationship.
The AASM collects and receives specific sleep scoring data, including sleep scoring decisions, from participants “Scoring Data”. Scoring Data may be used to provide analytics, reports, and statistics required for the service being offered. We may also disclose and share Scoring Data to third-parties for research and data analysis purposes.

Telemedicine
To maintain efficient service while respecting the privacy of visitors to telemedicine website, the AASM has created and incorporated the following privacy policy into its Terms and Conditions of Use Agreement of our website.
Services provided via AASM enable health care professionals to deliver care to patients using telemedicine and/or to connect individuals who are seeking sleep medicine services with participating sleep doctors and sleep practices. AASM also provides administrative services as well as information and resources for individuals seeking general information on sleep medicine. We will collect the PII that you provide to us, including, but not limited to, your name, address(es), telephone, and e-mail address. AASM may use and store such information to provide a product or service you requested; analyze, evaluate, and improve user and prospective user experiences; alert you of AASM news, activities, programs, services, and benefits; and for other legitimate and lawful business purposes. PII may be given to a third party to complete a specific business transaction on behalf of AASM. AASM abides by all current, applicable Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act “HIPAA” rules and regulations. Marketing Disclaimers
Google AdWords
This Site uses the Google AdWords remarketing service to advertise on third party websites (including Google) to previous visitors to our site. It could mean that we advertise to previous visitors who haven’t completed a task on our site, for example using the contact form to make an enquiry. This could be in the form of an advertisement on the Google search results page, or a site in the Google Display Network.
